The only Audix vocal mic I use and own is the OM7 so I can't comment on the OM5 but I will say that I'm not a fan of the beta 58. We liked the Audix OM6 more than the Beta 58 and thought it was more neutral than the Beta 58 though it did have some high end sizzle which was smoother. This basically means that the Beta 58A has a smaller, more restrictive area that you can effectively sing into. Unfortunately this isnt the way that everyone sees it i spose -  alot of riders are full of 58's or beta 58 and if the act is quite large you've gotta be able to supply it. Nearly all Shure dynamic mics are 150 Ohm while nearly all AKG dynamics are 600 Ohm out (the exception is the D112 bass mic at 200 Ohm).
